Charles Skold Announces Campaign Response to COVID-19

Will pause door-knocking activities, contact voters through mail, phone, and internet instead

PORTLAND – As of this last weekend, Charles Skold has paused all door-to-door methods of voter contact for a period of at least three weeks. The decision was made out of an abundance of caution during this time of coronavirus (COVID-19) spread in Cumberland County and the State of Maine. In order to continue interacting with Portland voters in District 38, Charles will focus on reaching residents through mail, phone calls, and online communications.

To limit community spread of coronavirus, the CDC has recommended against coming within six feet of other people. Even before infected individuals exhibit symptoms, reports indicate they are able to pass on the virus through close contact with others.

“I started my campaign with the belief that this is home for all of us, and that it’s worth fighting for. Right now our home is being threatened by the spread of coronavirus, especially for our elderly and at-risk neighbors. The best way to fight now is to take a break from some of our in-person contact and to find other ways of staying connected.”

“This is a difficult situation and we are all doing our part to get through it together. Limiting my in-person contact with other people is the least I can do to help keep our most at-risk neighbors healthy and safe.”

“Talking directly with voters has been my favorite part of campaigning. I’ve enjoyed meeting my neighbors and am encouraged to see what so many are doing to make our communities better. While all of us are worried about the future—from the rising cost of housing, to funding our public schools, to the need for critical action on climate change —so many of us are standing up to do something about it. I look forward to continuing these conversations as I meet more of my neighbors on the phone and over the internet in the coming weeks.”
