Charles Skold Qualifies for June 9 Ballot in District 38 Democratic Primary
Pledges to be Portland’s strongest advocate in Augusta and intends to keep meeting with voters
PORTLAND – Charles Skold today announced that his campaign has qualified with the Secretary of State’s office to appear on the ballot for the upcoming June 9 Primary Election. Charles will appear as a Democratic candidate for State Representative in District 38, encompassing the West End, the Western Prom, the Western Waterfront, and St. John Valley. Charles first announced the achievement through a photo posted to his campaign Instagram account.
To qualify for the ballot, candidates must submit between 25 and 40 signatures collected from voters within the district. Charles Skold submitted 37 valid signatures to the Secretary of State on March 6, 2020. On Friday morning, the Secretary of State’s office confirmed that Charles had qualified for the June 9 ballot, along with candidates Michael Flaherty, and Jordan Zema.
Records show that Charles Skold collected the signatures during a time span of ten days, from February 7 to February 16. Charles announced his campaign on February 20, pledging to run as a Clean Election Candidate.
“The support I’ve received for this campaign in just one month has been incredible. To every person who has lent me their signature, signed up for my email list, or contributed $5 to my Clean Election Fund — thank you. We are just getting started, and I look forward to meeting more voters in the coming months and talking together about creating a future for all of us here in Portland.”
Charles Skold recently returned to Maine after completing a Master in Public Administration and a Master of Theological Studies at Harvard University, and working for five years in college ministry at Tufts University. He now lives on State Street and attends St. Luke’s Episcopal Cathedral.
"I’m running for State Representative because our future is not guaranteed. Here in Portland, the threats of climate change, unaffordable housing, and growing inequality are already at our doorstep. But I believe we still have time to fight for our future. We still have a window of opportunity to come together and create a future for all of us.
“I want to be Portland's strongest advocate up in Augusta—to fight for Portland’s future, to live out our best values of 'welcome,' and to work with the entire state to solve our common challenges. Because this is home for all of us, and I believe it’s worth fighting for."
